I never shill but when I do I jump off the backside of the mountain. My brother Patrick & his wife Christine O’Malley were given the distinct honor of having their film “Ski Bum: The Warren Miller Story” premiere at Slamdance this week in Park City, Utah. If you’ve ever seen one of those crazy ski movies where bombers are jumping off cliffs, that’s a Warren Miller film – a man who singlehandedly crafted the image of the ski bum.
From the Hollywood Reporter: “Film festival season tends to obscure Park City’s natural distinction as a world-class winter sports destination nestled high in the Wasatch Mountain range. For this 2002 Winter Olympics venue, Patrick Creadon’s outstanding new documentary profiling the storied career of the titular filmmaker couldn’t make for a better fit as the Slamdance opener.” When the Hollywood Reporter gives your review an “outstanding”, this is good.
Pat & Christine for the first time in their careers made 2 films simultaneously in the same calendar year. (The other one is about Father Ted Hesburgh of Notre Dame.) I asked Pat if he’d ever make two films at the same time again and he gave a succinct answer: “No.” He didn’t elaborate😊. Kudos to both of them for adding to their catalogue of great documentary films over a splendid career as filmmakers.
