Nancy Pelosi is Speaker of the House, again. I’m massively bullish, relative to expectations, on her ability to get things done with Mr. Trump. The Vegas Line is set at negative infinity – so exceeding expectations won’t be difficult. It’s fitting & spectacular she’ll be holding the gavel again as the number of female House representatives is at an all-time high. She’s a tough cookie. Her daughter: “She’ll cut your head off and you won’t even know you’re bleeding”. The president meets his match. But it hasn’t always been a bed of roses. When Speaker Pelosi visited the Vatican a few years back she sought a photo-op with the Pope – and got shot down. A lifelong Catholic, Ms. Pelosi went nearly in tears to the North American College to round up a few priests and got the cold shoulder a 2nd time. “Do you know who I am? I’m a Catholic.” “Then act like one,” was the silent, subtle rebuke. Even the church – especially the Holy See – doesn’t like to get played for political purposes. We can safely assume she’s recovered from that incident as today she’s 2nd in line for the presidency. Anyone who thinks she’s not up to the job can ask former Treasury Secretary Hank Paulson who got on one knee to beg her to sign TARP. Bonus points to anyone who remembers her rejoinder.
